TRANSFERING DATA FROM RANGER TO COMPUTER
COMPUTER SET-UP:
-Plug transfer cable (with serial port connector at each end) into Ranger and into computer’s Serial Port A.
-Open "Programs" from start-up menu.
-Go to "TDS (Tripod Data Systems)".
-Open "Survey Link" program.
-Select "Transfer" option.
-Select "Send/Receive" option from transfer screen.
-Prepare to receive data from Ranger unit.
RANGER UNIT SET-UP:
-Plug transfer cable into output port. (Same port as used with receiver)
-Arrow down to "Transfer" and select. (figure DT1)
-Select "Send File" from right side of options menu.
-Ensure that all program and communication settings are correct from the Settings screen, then hit "OK".
-Select file you wish to down load to computer. (Highlight appropriate file, then double click on file to send)

The software automatically creates two files, the .job file and the .raw file. Then the user creates the .CR5 file which contains co-ordinates, attributes and point numbers of the collected data. The CR5 file is then exported as a .dxf file and is inserted in the appropriate University AutoCAD drawing file in the GPSmaps subdirectory (University maps translated from NAD27 to NAD83). The user indicates in which order the points should be joined and what layers the data belongs on.
*Set File Type : "JOB" is the default format. If another format is desired, ie: Raw Data or Coordinate Data, simply select this format from the list displayed be selecting from the "Type" menu in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
