TROUBLESHOOTING

(HOW TO CORRECT THE SETTINGS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA GPS SYSTEM)

  1. 1) Check the control file: - Select "Job", then hit "Settings" on the right hand screen.

Model: Z-Xtreme

GPS Mode: RTK

- Arrow left to the "Files" tab at the top of the screen.

2) Check receiver settings: - From the Settings screen, hit "Receiver settings" box in the lower right corner.

Format for RTK: DBEN

Serial Port (Data Collector): COM 1

Serial Port (GPS Receiver): A

Baudrate: 9600

Parity: None

-Tap the "Change" box if any of the settings need to be set

3) Check Base Radio settings: - Tap on the "Base Radio" tab at the top of the GPS

Receiver Settings screen.

Radio Modem: Pac Crest

Baudrate: 9600

Parity: None

Serial: B

Channel: 0

Sensitivity: Low

- Tap the "Configure" box beside any settings which need to be set to change settings.

4) Check Mode of Measurement: - From the main menu select "Job", then "Settings" from the right hand side.

Acceptance Mode: Fine

Store GPS Raw: + variances

Epochs to Average on Accept: 10

The box for "Use criteria to auto accept

Data Points" should be shaded

5) Check Projection settings: -From the same settings screen, tap the "Projection" tab at the top of the screen.

-The settings should be:

Horizontal: Localization: Control Points

Vertical: Localization

6) Check Units of Measurement: From the same settings screen, arrow left and tap on the "Units" tab at the top of the screen.

-The settings should be:

Units for Distance: US Survey Feet

Units for Angles: Degrees

Display Directions as: Azimuth

Azimuth Type: North Azimuth

The Ranger unit is now programmed with the proper settings if it reads as above. If problems continue, refer to other topics of the "Troubleshooting" section of the web page.
